To use Propel Accelerator, select System Preferences from the
menu, or click System Preferences in the Dock and select Propel Accelerator
from the Other category. The Accelerator window appears. It has two tabs: Acceleration
and Setup.
In the Acceleration tab, you can elect to block banner ads and other in-pages
ads, and you can adjust the desired level of acceleration. Move the slider
to choose from the following acceleration settings:
Off: This setting disables the Propel Accelerator Client.
Low: This setting maintains the original quality of the graphics and web pages
you view. Graphics acceleration is limited to about 1.2X a 20% improvement,
with no loss of quality.
Medium: At this setting, you get better graphics acceleration (2.0X or 100%
improvement) with minimal affect on the appearance of images.
High: This setting has increased acceleration, with slightly more image quality
degradation. The improvement is approximately 3.0X.
Very High: This setting offers even more graphics compression about
6.0X.
Maximum: This setting provides the fastest graphics acceleration (about 9.0X).
At this level, a typical web page with lots of graphics appears significantly
faster than without Propel Accelerator. However, some graphics may appear slightly
fuzzy and some graphics may be affected by loss of color.
The Setup tab provides controls for setting your user name and password, running
Diagnostics, adjusting the cache size, and emptying the cache. You can choose
the cache size for storing temporary files on your computer's hard disk. Use
the slider to select from a minimum of 20 MB to a maximum of 2 GB. By default,
the cache size is 100 MB. This amount should be sufficient if you generally
visit five or fewer web sites daily. However, if you regularly visit dozens
or more web sites, a cache size of at least 200 MB is advisable.
